Introduction to Cross Cultural Ministry: Pentecostal Theology of Mission

CCM101

The study of Scripture will serve as a biblically informed understanding of the Church and its participation in the continuing redemptive mission of Jesus Christ empowered by the Holy Spirit to the nations. Cross-cultural ministry will be explored both philosophically and strategically. Special attention will be given to challenges with cross-cultural ministry in Asia. Students will be challenged to clarify their personal responsibility for participation in the Christ’s continuing redemptive mission to the nations.

Christian Leadership Principles

LEA201

Leadership is multi-disciplinary in its understanding and practice. One can study leadership in business, education, or politics that borrows from the social, political, and behavioral sciences as well as the arts and humanities. Christian leadership is a life-long journey into Christlikeness, growing in the capacity to be attentive to what the Spirit is saying along with a commitment to create a spiritually and organizationally healthy community. This subject integrates the timeless biblical wisdom with multiple disciplines in exploring the dynamics of Christian leadership in a dynamically changing world.

Christian Spirituality: Spiritual Formation

MIN102

This subject provides a preliminary introduction to Christian Spiritual Formation – which we will initially define as “the process of being formed towards Christlikeness for the sake of others.” Developing this definition will necessarily involve consideration of the work that only the Holy Spirit can do in the transformation towards Christlikeness, differentiating spiritual formation (focusing on who we are) as separate from but as having implications for moral formation (focusing on what we do). We will also consider and practice classical practices that have proven effective in partnering with the Holy Spirit, moving us away from patterns of self-destruction (sin) towards patterns supportive of and reflecting righteousness.

Historical Books of the Old Testament: I & II Samuel

BIB213

This subject examines the books of 1 and 2 Samuel with particular emphasis upon the female characters that occur within the narrative and the contributions of their stories to the overall themes presented within these books. The subject includes instruction in basic interpretive skills appropriate to the narrative form of Old Testament biblical text.

I & II Corinthians

BIB353

The Corinthian Correspondence provides a front row seat to a fascinating exchange between the Apostle Paul and the troubled church in Corinth. Paul addresses ethical and theological issues including sexual misconduct, conflicts in marriage, women in ministry, abuses of the spiritual gifts and much more. Underlying much of the dissension was the declining confidence the Corinthians had in Paul’s apostolic leadership.

Christology: Christ and Salvation

THE202

The identity of Jesus, his person and work and especially his divinity have been hotly debated for centuries. After two thousand years his name continues to provoke such ardent devotion and fanatical opposition. Who is this Jesus? This subject is an introduction to the doctrine of the Person and Work of Christ. The study is based on the authoritative witness of the biblical record, giving consideration to the development of Christology in Church tradition and drawing relevant application to the Church’s Witness to Christ in the world today.

Pneumatology: The Ministry of the Spirit in the Church

THE311

This subject covers the area of pneumatology (doctrine of the Holy Spirit) with a special focus on the life and ministry of the church. Developing this definition will necessarily involve, not only the classical themes of the deity and personhood of the Spirit, but also the Spirit’s works in and through the church, through the Word of God, the ordinances, the spiritual gifts, and mission. The salvific and empowering work of the Spirit will be covered as well.
