Immigration Matters

Valid Pass while in Singapore
An international student enrolling in the Diploma in Ministry programme at the School of Theology (SOT), an approved religious school, is required to obtain a valid Pass issued by the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) for the duration of their studies. This requirement also applies to holders of a valid Long-Term Visit Pass and a Dependant’s Pass holder.

Student’s Pass holders are NOT ALLOWED to work in Singapore during their course of study. They are strictly prohibited from engaging in any form of employment, whether paid or unpaid. Unless written consent is obtained from the Controller of Immigration, a Student’s Pass holder is not permitted to engage in any business, profession, or occupation in Singapore during the validity of their Student’s Pass. Violators will be prosecuted under the law.

Students must ensure that they remain in Singapore on a valid pass at all times. Please be mindful of the expiry dates of both your Social Visit Pass and Student’s Pass, as overstaying is a punishable offence under the Immigration Act.

Once you have completed your SOT programme, if you wish to pursue a different course or study at another Private Education Institution (PEI), you must apply for a new Student’s Pass online using the e-Service at least four weeks prior to the start of your new course.

Student’s Pass Application
Once you are offered a place in the Diploma of Ministry programme, SOT will process your Student’s Pass application with ICA. You will then receive a “Registration Acknowledgement Slip” issued by ICA.

If your application is successful, ICA will issue you an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter. Your Student’s Pass will only be issued if you meet all the requirements stipulated in the letter.

SOT will assist international students in arranging for arrival pick-up services from the airport/ferry/bus terminal to their place of accommodation.

Pick-up services are provided by SOT’s volunteers and they need ample time to make the necessary arrangements with their family and work place. As such, students who fail to give SOT advance notice may have to make their own arrangements for transportation.

Pick-up services will only be available from 9am to 6pm.

International students are strongly encouraged to book flights/ferry/bus arriving within this time frame. Students who arrive before or after the given time frame stated above can make their own arrangements for transportation to their accommodation.
